Dont look down on Hand-me-downs

I would say I am a fan of vintage clothing, I think its simplicity and style oozes class. There are items in my mother's closet that I've seen that I've truly envied but the difference in size stopped me from 'borrowing' them.

A hand-me-down is pretty simple in definition, It is something that has been used by someone and is passed on to another.

I am fortunate to have two sisters that I get to do this with. By the way, I absolutely love those humans, I'm forever grateful to have them in my life and have such an open, genuine relationship with them. They have impacted my life in such a positive way and it clearly shows now cause I'm featuring them in my blog and they didn't even pay me.

Most of my favorite clothing items are a result of hand-me-downs. The beauty of this phenomenon is the original owner is tired of the item so you get to appreciate it as a new item. The downside is if it is 5+ years old, you'll be the only person who has it and when someone is interested in the item, you're unable to tell them where to get it.

My elder sister gave me( amongst other things) a lime green shirt that is honestly perfect in my eyes. I loved it all the more when she mentioned that my late dad had bought it for her. It also really helps that they have a great sense of style.

This is me somewhere in the world wearing my favorite lime shirt. This shirt is open in the front and you have to criss-cross and tie it at the back. Super cute.

Another item I love has to be the peach shorts that again, my sister passed down to me. I'm a fan of how these shorts give a versatile look from wearing shorts to the beach to wearing them with a nice blouse and heels.

Let us look at the Pros and Cons of Pass-me-downs

Pros

  • You get free clothes
  • The items will definitely feel very personal and will be of great sentimental value
  • Pass-me-downs are usually of great quality. I feel that the emphasis is more on ( affordable) items being the latest fashion rather than quality.

Cons

  • The fit might not be perfect
  • It could be a much different style than yours
  • May not be in the best condition
I guess it depends on what you find important, it seems to me like taking hand-downs is a good idea. Do you also love a good pass-me-down or is it too old school for you?
